Aerial Combat
Combat is an exciting event for flyers and spectators alike. Each plane is given a 40 foot long, paper streamer and then sent into the air. The objective is to cut the streamers off the other five airplanes withing a set period of time. In the process of trying to do this, many midair collisions result. These often result in the total loss of the plane. Duct tape and other quick fixes are kept ready to complete repairs on wounded planes so they may be sent back up.
Of course, pilots don't put up their best equipment for these events. The most commonly used plane is the combat gremlin, a simple flying wing design that requires a minimum of build time and as little money as possible. Other common candidates are "beater" planes that are purchased at auctions and prepared with the intent of potentially causing some damage to other airplanes. Plans for some simple combat aircraft can be found at the Spad site www.spadtothebone.com
